Real estate Sydney, buying: Bizarre jelly pool blows buyers minds
A Vaucluse harbourfront home with a ‘gelignite pool’ that sold the day it was listed two years ago, has returned to the market —and you’ll be totally blown away by the reno and views.
The previous vendors, the former Westpac chief David Morgan and his wife, former Labor MP Ros Kelly, pocketed $25,275,000 two years ago, but now the snappy purchasers, hotelier Graham Campion and his wife, Marisa, have decided to downsize.
The newly renovated three-level four-bedroom, five-bathrooms residence at 81 Fitzwilliam Rd is listed with the Sotheby’s principal, Michael Pallier — who sold it last time — with a guide of $32m in an expressions of interest campaign.

The residence, which is believed to be the closest home to the harbour, is known as ‘Rockpool’ because of the unique pool in the rocks below, which, according to folklore, was a result of a visitor arriving from the country in the 1950s with a stick of gelignite who announced: “I’m going to build you a pool.”
Next minute, “boom!”, “boom!”
The previous owners, Morgan and Kelly, had lived there since 2009 when they bought it for $9m from the Bracey family.
Given the reno, and the pace of price growth in Vaucluse over the past couple of years, the price hike doesn’t seem unreasonable.
The median house price in the suburb has jumped from $5.25m to $8.75m in that time, a rise of more than 50 per cent.
And its rarity is likely to see it sell fast. Apart from the historic rock pool, it sits on a prized parcel of north-east facing land on Sydney Harbour.
There are iconic harbour views over Parsley Bay from every level and direct access to the water.
The reimagined residence, which is full of light, has large open-plan living areas flowing to a large, covered outdoor entertainment terrace with motorised Vergola.
The terrace has harbour views to Watsons Bay and across to Manly and Mosman.
The open plan kitchen has Miele appliances, stone benchtops and a large walk-in pantry.
The master suite has an extravagant master suite, with panoramic harbour views, two balconies, a Jetmaster fireplace and his and hers luxurious ensuites.
The lower ground floor is devoted to further bedrooms including a second master with ensuite and a viewing deck offering access to the rockpool on Parsley Bay.
Additional attributes include separate study/home office, timber floors, custom joinery, outdoor integrated heaters, ample storage for water toys, and remote-operated and a mechanically adjustable jetty for effortless access to boats.
